Jenice Johnson is a Texas-born photographer, writer, owl fanatic and lover of hula-hoops. Most of her career background is in journalism where she discovered that editing proofs was more fun when gummy bears were playing on them -- luckily she had a camera by her side.

This event turned into bringing props to work or using what was around her for the photos and her co-workers even got in on it – on breaks, of course. The rest, as they say, is history.

Jenice currently works as a writer, marketer and photographer for a company based in Kyle, SD, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She moved to the reservation in January 2013 and considers it her home away from home. She now lives back in Texas where she is working on her art space, Art Is Life Studio, which is located in Richardson, TX, in addition to continuing her full time work and freelancing.

Her love of snapping photos of gummy bears has landed her in several galleries, boutiques and exposure in print and online. When it comes to capturing them, Jenice likes to leave the bears doing what they do without forcing it too much or using a bunch of Photoshop techniques, which can take away from the natural feel of the photos. Plus they can be fussy!

“I just love the look and reaction these little guys get. It brings smiles and the kid out of everyone,” Jenice said. “That's what's important. Making people happy.
